Support and insulation

Power insulators provide mechanical support and electrical insulation in overhead lines and substations.

Structure and materials

Suspension insulators support or tension conductors. Disc units can be assembled into strings. Post insulators support equipment or conductors in suitable installations.

Common insulating materials include porcelain, toughened glass and composite materials. These are material categories, while suspension and post describe structural applications.

Operating conditions

Voltage, mechanical duty and pollution conditions affect the required design. Anti-pollution profiles and DC designs address particular service requirements.
