Type tests prove that an insulator design will perform over its service life. The two reference standards for overhead-line glass insulators are IEC 62217 (international) and GB/T 1001.1 (China). Understanding them helps buyers qualify suppliers quickly.

Core test items

• Dry / wet power-frequency withstand voltage
• Lightning & switching impulse withstand voltage
• Mechanical failing load (tensile test to destruction)
• Thermal-mechanical performance (cycling between temperature and load)
• Puncture test (overvoltage while under mechanical load)

What to request

Ask for the full type-test report from an accredited lab (CNAS / ISO/IEC 17025), plus routine test certificates for each batch: visual, mechanical, and frequency-voltage checks.
